An Anonymous Flyer has appeared around town implying that the Middle Housing Ordinance will provide "Middle-Class Housing". Help us spread the TRUTH: the Berkeley Planning Department clearly stated that this ordinance DOES NOT require any increase in affordability standards. As Mina Wilson stated at our Town Hall, "If affordability is not intentional, it's not going to happen."
The flyer also states that 35' heights are already allowed in residential neighborhoods. That is true, but current law requires a structure this high to go through the Zoning Adjustments Board and allows appeal to City Council. The new ordinance would allow this height by-right.
The flyer states that "Builders will help fund affordable housing and public schools" but we all know public schools are funded by property taxes, not by builders.
